Customer Story of Tom Holland

fit20 Exeter - Tom Holland

We asked Tom to share his experience so far with fit20.

Think back to the beginning of the year, before you started fit20. How were you feeling? What were you wanting to achieve? What were some of the differences you wanted?

"I had noticed that I was starting to become physically strained undertaking what I would consider ‘normal’ tasks such as playing with my young son or moving things around the house.

I have a 2-year-old son and more than anything I wanted to be physically strong enough to play with him and do all those silly parent things like being a human climbing-frame or launching him around like a rocket!

I wanted to feel more flexible, be confident that I could do all the things I had enjoyed doing when I was younger without the risk of hurting my back or pulling muscles."

Before joining, what else had you already tried? What made you interested in trying fit20 versus just going to a gym?

"I’ve been a member of a gym in the past, but I’ve never felt like I fitted in. I’m very self-conscious and seeing all those fit people in a gym just doesn’t motivate me, in fact it just puts me off.

I knew that in order to overcome these hang-ups I needed 2 things; the ability to be in private, and someone to push me and keep me motivated. fit20 supplies both of these things but also has the added bonus that it is only once a week."

What have you found most helpful about working with us at fit20?

"From the first meeting everything has been about what I want to achieve, there is no pressure to be or do anything outside what I want and need – this is a really refreshing feeling when compared to the more traditional gyms.

Motivation! Surinder is just the best – he drives me so hard that I’ve gone past what I want to achieve, now I don’t want to let him down!"

What have you learned about yourself or exercise since starting out?

"The 2 biggest things are that I enjoy it, maybe not at the time, but later that day I feel like I’ve actually made a positive step for the better. In addition to that, I’ve actually learnt that I can push myself a lot further than my brain thinks I can go. It’s remarkable what I can physically do, just as I think I’m totally finished, I’m at the solid wall I hear “…come on Tom, just one more big effort.” and I know I’ve still got some more left in me – really not something I would have expected to think about myself 6 months ago!"

What differences have you noticed in yourself since starting that you're most proud of?

"I feel the best I can ever remember feeling – I don’t say that lightly either. I feel physically stronger, my body feels tighter and nimbler. It also helps that I like how I look in the mirror. I’ve never been one to want a great (or even half-way decent) physique, but I do have a little smile on my face when I see myself in a nice shirt – it’s like being in my 20s again!"

What differences have others noticed or commented on since you started?

"I’ve never had so many compliments before, not all are due to how I look, some are down to how I carry myself or project myself. I do truly think that this is down to the work with Surinder and fit20. I just feel confident about how I look, and others are seeing that."

What would you say to anyone who's not sure if fit20 can work for them?

"I am the biggest ‘anti-gym’ or ‘anti-exercise’ person going, but I’m more than happy to say that in this case I was wrong. If you want to feel better and look better just give it a go. Set a realistic target, and review when the time comes. For me my ‘I want a result by’ date was my 40th Birthday, which was 6 months after starting, and I started feeling results in half that time!"
